Nedgroup Investments Multi-Manager is a dedicated asset management division within Nedgroup Investments that consists of a diverse team of investment professionals based in Cape Town and London. We specialise in asset allocation and fund manager research and base our investment decisions on fundamentally-driven research.
Collectively the team manages in excess of R32bn in assets on behalf of clients across both the retail and institutional markets and have an enviable track record going back as far as 2004.
The aim of our portfolio construction process is to build and maintain a well-diversified mix of exposures, which emphasises those risks that we expect to deliver positive rewards, and minimises those that we believe might detract value.
The aim of our portfolio construction process with our global funds is to build and maintain a well-diversified mix of exposures. We differentiate between developed markets and emerging markets, between large cap and small cap equities, global listed property as well as between investment grade or high yield government and corporate bonds. These are combined in such a manner as to enhance our chances of meeting the fund’s return objective within the targeted risk parameters.
We follow a long-term, valuation driven investment approach. Simplistically, we aim to position our portfolios to asset classes that offer reasonable value over a three to five year investment time horizon and avoid or minimize our exposure to asset classes that appear overpriced or expensive.
Our investment philosophy is anchored to the following principles:
The longer the period of the investment, the higher the probability that markets reflect expectations.
There is no correct or incorrect approach to active management. Different approaches suite different skill sets. It is crucial to align a manager’s skill to the mandate.

The team is located both in Cape Town, South Africa and London, United Kingdom and covers a large universe of unitised funds across all the major asset classes from a global perspective.
